Oregon COVID 19 Update
By T.L. McCoy
Speculation about Oregon’s Fall hunting seasons has been all over social media of late. The May 15 application deadline is rapidly approaching. A number of closures and restrictions on fishing opportunities only served to fuel the concern. On May 5th Oregon Department of Fish and Wildlife (ODFW) released a statement about the May 15 application deadline amid the Covid-19 pandemic.
At this time ODFW does not anticipate Covid-19 related impacts to our fall big game hunts. Applications are still due May 15. The News Release did cover processes to restore preference points in the event hunters cannot hunt. These processes can be triggered if a large part of a hunt area is closed or a hunter has a serious illness or injury. Hunters can always buy a preference point, either in the main draw due 5/15 or from July 1 until Nov. 30.
